Gearing Up for the Colorado Springs Spartan Sprint/Beast

Here we go again! We will be hosting a 6-week training program to prepare you for the Colorado Springs Spartan Super/Sprint on May 14 & 15th.


MBS Spartan X Training Program

In just over 6 weeks on May 14-15th, Spartan Races is coming to Ft. Carson army base in Colorado Springs to host a “Super” (8-10 mile) and “Sprint” (3-5 mile) obstacle course. The obstacle courses feature 20-30 obstacles that will test your endurance, perseverance and grit. While the obstacles, many times are unknown till the day of the race, you can expect things like mud pits, barbed wire, hill sprints, cargo nets, high walls, and of course, the SPEAR THROW!

These courses are fun…Well, that sort of “fun” that’s fun when it’s over. You may end up with some bumps and bruises, and you’ll likely not be in the top 10 (there are actually professional Obstacle Course Racers ), but you will have done something hard. It will make your Monday morning meeting with bosses seem like a cakewalk. The best part will be the training leading up to the race.

Every Sunday from 1:00-2:30 pm, we will be running a Spartan X training session. Prepare your body for the 40-80 minute race time, learn how to scale walls, crawl under barbed wire, climb cargo nets, race up hills, and throw a spear! Bring a water bottle, wear some workout clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, and of course, a winning attitude.

Cores and Floors Seminar

WHEN: March 17th, 6pm-8pm at the Hangar in the CF Light room


This two hour seminar is geared for women of all backgrounds to connect with your core and learn about how to support women’s health. We will be discussing women’s anatomy as well as doing hands-on exercises to help you on your way to a stronger “core and floor.”

Pamela is a certified postnatal yoga instructor as well as a birth worker who supports women in various stages of motherhood.

Due to the great response we received during our last challenge, and the interest coming from all of you, we have decided to run another challenge!  Click here and join us February 29th to kick off a 30 day paleo challenge, ending March 31st.  The challenge is based on performance to help you during the CrossFit Open.  However, as one athlete explains it, Going to the gym is 10 times more enjoyable when you hit PR’s and this challenge helped me hit a lot.  So “…For Performance” to me meant, “… for making working out more fun,”  “…for being proud of yourself more often,”  “…for seeing significant improvement in a relatively short time span”


During the challenge you will be guided through clean eating for optimum health and performance.

Challenge Highlights:

  • Kick-off nutrition meeting, February 29th @ 7pm

  • Pre/Post challenge testing (weight, pictures, workout)
  • FaceBook nutrition page and web page for online coaching and accountability

Please join us for a Cores and Floors seminar at MBS CrossFit Broomfield from 6-8pm. It’s that time again!

Do my friends have to be “in shape”, or have CrossFit experience to participate? Absolutely not! We have 8 years of experience in helping all levels of athletes participate in CrossFit, regardless of current fitness level.

How many friends can I bring in? As many as you’d like.

Do I need to do anything? To make this experience the best possible, please fill out a contact form for what class time, and how many friends you’ll be bringing in. We’ll take care of the rest!

Clean & Jerk Clinic

Join me, Coach Meriah, this Saturday, Feb.13th from 9-10:30 at our Arvada location for a clean and jerk clinic.  This clinic will be focused more on how to cycle cleans or clean and jerks quickly like see in CrossFit workouts or maybe even the 2016 Open?!  How do you vary technique for light vs a 1 rep max?  This clinic will be 90min of technique review and practice for $20.  Space is limited, so be sure to sign up today!  You can email meriah@mbscrossfit.com if you’d like to pay cash, or go to this link to sign up and pay online!

Saturday Snatch Clinic with Coach Meriah!

IMG_2403 Sam got a private lesson last week and she wanted to work on her Olympic lifting! We broke down the positions of the snatch and worked on cues that she could use when working on her own! In just an hour we made some great progress in making her much more efficient and confident in her lifts. I can’t wait to see what she can do next!

Want to work on your snatch technique? Join me (coach Meriah) this Saturday at our Arvada location from 9-10am for a snatch clinic! We’ll be breaking down the snatch and in prep for the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Open ( you’ve signed up right?)  and reviewing the differences in technique for lifting a max effort vs cycling lightweights for reps. Or what to do if you have to complete a lot of reps near your one rep max (dun, dun, dun!). Cost is $20 for the clinic, you can sign up at the link here!
